Gaslighting is a form of emotional manipulation used by abusers to try to make another person doubt their sense of reality and sanity in order to control them, often isolating them from family and friends in the process. If you’ve heard the story of ‘Dirty John’, this is a classic example of gaslighting. In this episode, psychotherapist Dr. Stephanie Sarkis talks about how gaslighting behavior can show up everywhere from families, to dating, to child custody, and in the workplace. She also shares with us how we can spot the signs of a gaslighter, and what to do if we find ourselves in a personal or professional relationship with one. At the end of the show we talk about an organization that helps educate young people about how to avoid abusive relationships: https://www.joinonelove.org/
